The Devon’s Gift

On days when light feels hard to find,
And silence hums a heavier tune,
She curls beside me, still and warm,
A quiet sun in shadowed rooms.

No words, no rush, no need to speak,
Just breath and fur and gentle grace,
A steady purr, a velvet touch,
That slows the world’s relentless pace.

Her eyes, like stars in softened skies,
Hold stories only stillness tells,
Of tangled naps and whispered trust,
Of tiny hearts that love so well.

She doesn’t ask for what I hide,
Nor turns away from sorrow’s shade,
She simply stays, in calm defiance
Of all the noise that life has made.

In every paw-press on my chest,
In every stretch across my knees,
She writes a wordless kind of care,
A lullaby in silent ease.

She doesn’t fix the broken parts,
She doesn’t try to make me new,
She simply stays, and in her staying,
Brings back the softness I once knew.

So small, and yet the world feels right
When she is nestled at my side,
Pure presence in a fragile world,
My Devon’s love, unclassified.
